Ten years on from being named Merseyside Woman of the Year 2014, Sara Lawton, Director of Rise Construction Framework, has marked the occasion by joining the awards as category sponsor.

Sara was recognised at the 2014 for her work across communities. This included devising and delivering a range of frontline services, mentoring young women at risk, creating specialist teams to tackle youth crime, working with women in the justice system and leading on the delivery of Liverpool’s super youth zone The Fire Fit Hub in Toxteth that has since supported thousands of young people across the City of Liverpool.

Seeing an opportunity to create an organisation truly capable of and committed to making a difference in people’s lives, Sara founded Rise Construction Framework, a business for good that aimed to make communities safer, stronger and economically active, in 2015.

Rise works with public sector partners to address some of society’s toughest issues and uses profits to directly fund vital community prevention and intervention initiatives that tackle some of today’s most complex societal issues – making public sector money work twice as hard. It has supported thousands of individuals experiencing issues such as domestic violence, homelessness, poverty, unemployment and poor mental health.

In addition to this, in 2020, Rise also founded and funded a unique service for care leavers across Liverpool City Region called Thrive CIC, a cafe, careers hub and safe space for care leavers to meet with support workers, with all money made going back into the service.

Speaking of the awards, Sara said: “This year marks the 10th anniversary of my Merseyside of the Woman of the Year title, so it felt really fitting to mark the anniversary by sponsoring the Social Impact category as well as celebrating and raising the profile of other women.

“Our guest list is complete and we are looking forward to a lovely afternoon on the 28th June. Closing date for nominations is 2nd April so don’t forget to nominate!”
